Sean McComiskey, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries, with specific expertise in orofacial and head pain including temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), migraines, tension headaches, eustachian tube dysfunction, and repetitive stress injuries. He is also experienced in the treatment of low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, hip and knee injuries, chronic pain, and postural dysfunction. He holds a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and subsequently trained under David Shulman, PT, BSPT, in the treatment and management of orofacial and head pain and arts-related injury while working as a Staff Physical Therapist at Shulman and Associates Physical Therapy. Sean opened Birch Tree Physical Therapy and Wellness, LLC, in 2019 with the goal of providing quality, one-on-one care to reduce and prevent musculoskeletal pain symptoms for clients in the greater Baltimore area.

In addition to treating patients directly, Sean has presented workshops and lectures throughout the region on repetitive stress injuries for performing artists, as well as on physical therapy techniques for the treatment of TMD. Sean’s interest in the treatment of performing arts and other occupational injuries stems from his experience as a professional button accordion player; recent performances have included the Grand Ole Opry, The Kennedy Center, and Birdland Jazz Club NYC, along with numerous bluegrass, folk, and Irish music festivals. He currently performs with the Baltimore-based acoustic roots quartet Charm City Junction.
